The origin of this fantastic riff on James Brown’s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag,” has been a bit of a mystery. While digging through the vaults of Satin Records, we stumbled upon the original reel and cleared up some of the details.
“I’m Beggin’ You” was recorded in San Antonio during the summer of 1969 in a session led by Mickey Foster of the legendary Mickey & the Soul Generation. The 45 ends with the start of what sounds like a huge open drum break. We speculated—and hoped—that the reel might hold a version with the full drum break. It does.
Presented here is the uncut version of this superb Texas Funk track with the full break. Look for this track and more from these 1969 Soul sessions on a future Heavy Light Records release!
